Our faculty are an important and vital part of all we do. We take great pride in recognizing their achievements in teaching, scholarship, research, creative activity, public service, and mentoring.
University System of Maryland Board of Regent鈥檚 Faculty Awards
The Board of Regents' Faculty Awards are the highest honor presented by the Board of Regents to exemplary faculty members within the University System of Maryland (USM). These awards publicly recognize distinguished performance by faculty members in
- Teaching
- Scholarship or Research
- Creative Activity
- Public Service
- Mentoring
Each award carries a $2,000 prize provided by the institutions and the University System of Maryland Foundation.
Towson University鈥檚 Institutional Faculty Nominating Committee submits its recommendations to university leadership for consideration. Final nominations of outstanding TU faculty whose efforts have fueled exceptional teaching, research, service and innovation were then forwarded to the USM Office of Academic Affairs for final selection.
Timeline for USM BOR Faculty Award

Call for Nominations
The Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs sends out the Call for Nominations for the awards to USM Presidents (Usually in September). This includes a brief description about the awards in addition to the deadline for the final packets. Once the Call for Nominations comes out the Office of the Provost notifies Deans and Associate Deans. There will also be posts in the TU Today. to view a copy of this year's memo. to view more details about each award category.

Step One of the Application Process:
The USM BOR Faculty Awards consists of a 20-page application. The TU Faculty Nominating Committee, comprised of representatives from each college, reviews the first five pages of the application to determine who should move forward to represent TU. Faculty who are interested in applying need to consult with their college Dean before submitting application materials. Faculty are not able to self nominate and need the approval of their Dean. Faculty who are interested and have the approval from their Dean should send the first five pages of the application to the Office of the Provost by the end of business on September 27, 2024. Send the following materials to jnance AT_TOWSON
a. summary resume,
b. a one-page essay from the nominee describing how he or she has contributed to excellence in the category of the nomination,
c. a letter of recommendation from the department chairperson or dean,
d. brief documentation of exemplary achievement summarizing the materials listed below for the category.

Selection Process
The first Friday in October the TU Faculty Nominating Committee meets to review the applications and select the candidates to move forward in the process. Faculty selected to move forward are notified via email of their nomination and next steps. to view a checklist of all the materials needed to complete the application.

Department Chair and Deans
Department Chairs will be sent an email with a copy of the Certification Form to fill out on behalf of the faculty member.
Deans will be sent an email asking them to draft a letter from the President on behalf of the faculty member.

Final 20 Pages
The final 20 pages of the application are due to jnance AT_TOWSON by the end of business on November 8th, 2024.

Notification
The Office of the Provost will forward the application packets to the USM. The Regents
will announce winners the following Spring.
