Celebration of Scholarship & Learning

Student demonstrating research in front of poster

The Celebration of Scholarship and Learning (CSL) represents an opportunity for the entire Towson University community to recognize the accomplishments of Honors College students. It is a great way for students to build their resume and learn from the experiences of their peers. Honors students presenting at these events have recently completed or are in the process of completing experiential learning for Honors credit, such as conducting research, studying abroad, undertaking a service-learning course, or completing an internship.

The Celebration of Scholarship and Learning is held twice a year, once during each of the fall and spring terms. The fall 2024 CSL will take place during Family Weekend on Saturday, October 5 from 10 am to noon.

Honors students may also submit proposals for presentations on any topic and in any field. Topics for posters may include but are not limited to:

  • Capstone projects
  • Honors theses
  • Research experiences
  • Honors seminars
  • Internship experiences
  • Service-learning projects
  • Study abroad experiences

Posters are reviewed by faculty and staff judges and awards will be given for different categories of presentations. The award-winning presenters are encouraged to present at regional and national Honors conferences, professional conferences in their field, and Towson University events such as the Student Research & Creative Inquiry Forum and Admitted Student Days.

Printing Instructions and Guidelines

Presenters can print their posters in advance for free via the Library's Large Format Printing service. Anyone looking to print their poster should make an appointment to have it printed at least three days in advance of the event to ensure enough time to avoid any delays or make alternative plans in case of any issues. Cook Library has produced a printing guide with checklist that will be helpful as you work.

Presenters are encouraged to prepare their posters using PowerPoint. A full-sized poster will include about 12 slides, which can be organized to fit the "24"x36" center panel plus two 12"x36" side panels" template for use on a three-paneled cardboard presentation board. Templates and printing info can be found on the Library's webpage. Presenters may pick up a free presentation board at the Honors College main office in YR 134 during normal business hours between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. prior to the Celebration of Scholarship and Learning.

Posters should have the following items listed at the top of the poster:

  • Project title
  • Presenter name
  • Name(s) of supervising professor
  • Department through which the project is being pursued (or Honors College, if pursued only through Honors)
  • The following attribution, as the last line of the top section: Towson University Honors College, Towson, MD, USA

In addition, posters should include, at the bottom of one of the side panels, a sample bibliography of at least five sources and any acknowledgements of grants received or thanks the presenter would like to convey.

Presentation Resources

Preparing a presentation for the Celebration of Scholarship and Learning, or any other research or poster conference, consists of several steps. The following resources outline how to organize information, prepare a visually-appealing presentation, and how to discuss your findings in a conference or event setting.
